Now in its 8th consecutive year, the Steve Mitchell Golf Classic raises critical funds to help our neighbor and friend Steve Mitchell gain precious mobility after his devastating 2009 diving accident that resulted in a severe spinal cord injury (SCI) and paralysis. But just as importantly, this popular community event raises awareness of the estimated 285,000 persons who sustained a SCI in 2017 and those will continue to struggle with the resulting paralysis in 2018.
The experimental treatment that is beginning to make a profound difference in Steve?s life is costly, but if it?s successful, it could give hope to thousands of paralysis victims who have lost faith in the possibility of recovery.
This year?s Golf Classic is scheduled for Friday, October 12, 2018 at Lee's Hill Golf Club. The venue is perfect for our event. It has generated an increasing number of attendees every year and has attracted a tremendous amount of support from the business community in the form of sponsorships, corporate gifts, and gifts-in-kind.
We are once again reaching out for local support and hope that you will consider our invitation to sponsor our event! Your participation will signal to the community that you are a company that deeply cares about the welfare of Spotsylvania?s residents and that you are willing to do whatever is necessary to help Steve and his family.
The courage of Steve has had a tremendous impact on all of us. He simply won?t give up! Once given a mere 10% chance of survival, he has emerged from debilitating paralysis and ventilator dependency to a state of partial mobility. He devotes every minute of every day to his recovery. Researching new approaches with incredible tenacity, building his strength, pushing his physical limits, and finally deciding to pursue an innovative stem cell treatment have taken him to a point where he can now almost stand up on his own with some help using a regular walker.
Despite his relentless determination, none of this could have been possible without the generous support of the community. He still has a long way to go, but at this point there is no doubt that he will one day cross the finish line standing up and walking on his own!
In appreciation for your sponsorship support, we will acknowledge your generosity on our website, our social media platforms, our program?s sponsor page, our press releases, and on any promotional materials that we publish.
